What We Do…
We design and build high-quality custom bass guitars tailored to the individual player. Our approach stays true to our design principle of prioritizing tone, feel, and balance, and we obsess over every nuance. From material selection to final setup, every detail is guided by our commitment to craftsmanship, precision, and uncompromising quality. It’s a simple concept, really… your bass is a tool for expressing yourself, an extension of you as an artist. Therefore, it should feel intuitive, effortless, and create a seamless connection between inspiration and expression.
Tone… We strive for clear and articulate tone, achieved through a carefully considered wood selection and high-quality electronics. We believe you should have a range of tonal options at your fingertips without the layout being overly complicated. We offer a choice of Nordstrand, Bartolini, or EMG electronics on all of our basses. Hipshot ultralight tuners are standard, allowing smooth tuning action. You may also choose a bone, graphite, or brass nut, and a zero fret may be added for no extra charge to ensure tonal consistency between open and fretted notes.
Feel… Your bass should play effortlessly up the entire fretboard. Our basses are designed for maximum comfort and playability, with unobstructed access to the upper register. We offer a 12-18 inch compound radius at no extra charge to allow for the lowest possible action. Our basses come standard with a highly adjustable Hipshot A-style bridge, allowing you to alter individual string height and spacing, and to anchor the strings either at the bridge or through-body. We typically carve a thin asymmetric neck profile on our 5 and 6 string basses to fit your hand’s natural resting position and reduce wrist strain; however, we can build your bass with a traditional symmetric profile if you prefer.
Balance… We know you may be performing for hours at a time, so we make every effort to achieve perfect balance and to keep the weight of your bass at a minimum. Lightweight woods minimize strain on your back and shoulders, while lightweight tuners and strap button placement work to reduce neck dive. Although not as crucial as tone or playability, your instrument’s aesthetic balance is also important. A beautiful instrument inspires you to pick it up and play. We strive to design instruments with a wood combination that is both tonally responsive and visually striking. The graceful curves of your Lea bass help it stand out from the pack before it’s ever even plugged in. Our wide selection of highly figured top woods ensures your Lea bass will be one-of-a-kind… no one else will have a bass like yours.
What We Don’t Do…
We don’t compromise. We don’t take shortcuts. We don’t rush the process. We don’t build clones of production instruments. Every bass that comes out of our shop is uniquely crafted and built to last for generations.
