A Legacy Honored: The Wyn Tribute Line
In 2011, I contacted Randy Fullmer, owner of Wyn Guitars, for advice on building a bass. Although I was an experienced woodworker, I lacked the specific knowledge to bring a quality instrument to life. Randy didn’t just offer advice; he became a mentor and friend. Committed to “paying it forward,” he walked me through every step of the process and later guided my transition from hobbyist to professional luthier. Sadly, Randy passed away in 2023.
Randy’s influence is woven into every bass I build. He taught me that an instrument should be artfully contoured, with tasteful yet functional wood combinations that emphasize the instrument’s curves rather than causing the bass to appear visually cluttered. He showed me how to build an instrument that combines strength and stability with a natural, effortless feel - an instrument that becomes the player’s go-to bass from the very first note. Today, I continue to use the processes he passed down, maintaining the aesthetic details and core design principles he championed.
In early 2025, I reached out to Randy’s wife, Diana, to discuss building a bass in his memory. That conversation evolved into a close collaboration, and with her blessing, we are honored to be launching the Wyn Tribute line.
This project is a deeply humbling undertaking. To be clear, I am not taking over Wyn Guitars; these instruments are a collaboration designed to carry on his legacy. For the initial series, I am honored to use original bodies, hardware, electronics, and select wood stocks personally sourced and prepared by Randy. By incorporating these components into my builds, I aim to ensure his vision remains at the heart of every instrument. As this legacy supply is limited, I will eventually transition to building these basses entirely from scratch using his designs. These instruments are a labor of love from my shop—a bridge between his teachings and the future of his craft.
To honor his memory, 25% of the proceeds from every Wyn Tribute bass are donated to the American Cancer Society. It is my small way of paying it forward.
